Introduction

I am in the process of upgrading the site so rather than add two pages of the same thing I shall use a modified version of this new style for future posts until everything is linked back in again.

Visiting the battlefields

I have been visiting the battlefields of the Western Front for about twenty years now. In order to be able to potter to my heart's content I moved to France in 2003, bringing my meagre pension with me.

Through the menu on the right side of the page you should be able to explore the countryside.

2nd US Division memorial at Lucy le Bocage The American monument at Cantigny Looking towards Vimy Ridge The 58th Division Monument at Chipilly The Dunkirk Memorial The 63rd RN Division Monument at Gavrelle The monument to the pigeons in Lille The Lochnagar Crater The P'tit train de la Somme The monument to the French Colonial Corps at Rossignol Vignacourt British Cemetery The Ulster Tower Remembering the Chemin des Dames The Croix de Guerre for the Devonshire Regiment at Pontavert Vern Thiessen in the trenches whilst researching his play : Vimy

Not everything is covered because there is so much to see and visit. My objective is to try and link things together so that with luck readers who were looking for one thing will find something else that interests them nearby. That's how the site is constructed: I become distracted by something totally unconnected with the research in hand, but interesting all the same.
