Kippe

Getting there

The village of Kippe lies on the N 369 between Ieper and Diksmuide. The larger village of Merkem is just off to the left from the main road, whilst this is also a good place to turn off the main road to visit the Belgian Military Cemetery at Houthulst Forest.

There are two monuments here worth seeing.

This memorial stone is situated just on the southern side of the village and would be on your left as you arrive from Ieper.

The panel on the stone gives details of the units who fought with the Division.

This fine statue stands between houses on the left hand side of the road as you travel through Kippe towards Diksmuide.

The statue to Armand van Eecke

The statue was raised by the parents of Armand who was killed at the age of 22 during the fighting on 9 September 1918.

He was born in the hop and brewing village of Watou near the French frontier at Poperinge and had risen to the rank of Adjutant in the 5th Company of the 3rd Line Regiment.
