Villers Bretonneux

Anzac Day 2016

Another cold Anzac Day at Villers-Bretonneux. The rain stayed away just long enough for the ceremony to conclude in the dry.

This year the gatherers were subjected to high security on entering the site and all had to pass through an airport styled search procedure.

2016 marked the 100th Anniversary of Anzac Day and the ceremony was broadcast live to Australia following on from the Gallipoli Dawn Service.

Major General David Chalmers AO CSC acted as Master of Ceremonies and the welcoming address was given by the Australian Ambassador to France : HE Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO.

The Call to Remembrance was given by Air Marshal Leo Davies AO CSC, Chief of the Royal Australian Air Force, Australian Defence Force. The reply on behalf of the French Government was given by M. Jean-Ives le Drian, ministre de la Défense.
