Blaringhem Churchyard
Location
Blaringhem is a small village situated approximately 8km to the north of Aire sur la Lys. From Aire take the D 943 road towards St Omer. One kilometre after the village of Wittes turn right onto the D 106 in the direction of Blaringhem. The canal crossing is controlled by traffic lights. Follow the road around to the right and you will see the church on your right. Parking is available.
There are four burials, one of whom is unidentified.
On the town side of the canal bridge is the Brasserie du Pays Flamand which brews the excellent Bracine range of beers. Its boutique is open to the public on Friday afternoons.

Mackness was already under a suspended death sentence when he deserted for a second time during a period of intense fighting for his battalion at Nieuport (Now Nieuwpoort) on the Belgian coast.
