Location

The cemetery is located to the north-east of the town of Ieper. From the station follow the ring road in an anti-clockwise direction (Passing the Lille Gate/Rijselpoort on your left).

At the large roundabout on the Menin Road (just after the sports centre) take the fourth exit onto the N345. The next village, Sint Jan is reached within a kilometre and you cross the next roundabout into Potijzestraat. The cemetery is located 100 metres on the left as you round the corner.

Historical Information

Potijze was within the Allied lines during practically the whole of the First Word War and although subject to incessant shell fire, Potijze Château contained an Advanced Dressing Station. Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery was used from April 1915 to October 1918.

There are now 584 Commonwealth burials of the First World War within the cemetery.

The cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.

The three Potijze Château cemeteries are all within a few minutes walk near the roundabout in Zonnebeeksweg.
