The end of the French offensives

In September the French made their final assault on Vimy Ridge. This time the artillery had 260,000 rounds to play with. Souchez was taken but the ridge remained in German hands.

3rd Battle of Artois

The start of the battle of Verdun in February 1916 resulted in the French handing the Arras sector over to the British.
